Roald Dahl is a name synonymous with great grade-school fiction. And Dahl’s Fantastic Mr. Fox is a timeless children’s classic. Read along as Mr. Fox outfoxes local farmers in order to steal delectable treats right from under their noses. This tale speaks to the heroism and cleverness of the fox, his family, and his fellow friends, as well as the dim-wittedness and stubbornness of three nearby farmers. Once you’ve read Fantastic Mr. Fox, your child will also love the movie by the same name, and directed by Wes Anderson. The film version of the book offers up even more turns, twists, and antics. This artful pair is sure to solidify the Fantastic Mr. Fox title as one of your child’s favorites.
WHERE THE SIDEWALK ENDS BY SHEL SILVERSTEIN
Shel Silverstein has a knack for poetry and art, and he displays both in his collection of poems, entitled Where the Sidewalk Ends. This 1974 classic has gained the gaze and applause of children around the globe. Read strange poems about eating whales, scoops upon scoops of ice cream, television, and yes, nose-picking. Your child will be rolling on the floor in delight at the odd rhymes and weird pictures that Silverstein has accumulated. Your kiddo is sure to pull this collection off the shelf time and time again, and your tyke might even memorize a few of his favorite poems!
