What is Enrichment?
Our Home Away From Home vision for enrichment programs is providing a broad range of advanced-level enrichment experiences for VPK students and using student responses to these experiences as stepping stones for relevant follow up.
How Does It Work?
Enrichment is an important part of a VPK school day. It is provided to enhance, rather than replace our set curriculum. It is a time of instruction that injects both in-depth and enrichment learning experiences and individual styles of learning. Learning is more meaningful and enjoyable when
focus is on the student's stengths.
Principles of Enrichment!
The development of enrichment should be based upon the following principles of learning and teaching:
Each learner is unique.
Learning is more effective when students enjoy what they are doing.
Learning is more meaningful and enjoyable when content and process are learned within the context of a real and present problem.
Strengths of Enrichment programs!
This could include, but is not limited to the following:
Helping to modify curriculum in order to differentiate
Developing centers to accompany themes of study
Providing higher-level thinking games/activities
Teaching students games that enhance critical thinking and creative thinking
Creating quick mind benders for morning challenge work or time fillers
Pretesting students and developing "instead of" activities for those who have already mastered curricular materials/skills
Providing information about gifted education
Finding resources on a particular topic of study
Computers with age appropriate software.
Student Portfolios!
Portfolios will be produced for each student. Documentation of child's learning syles and work samples will be collected throughout the school year to reflect student progression, individual strengths and interests as learners.
